Jungle & Cloud Forest

Mashpi

A rainforest hotel in the clouds

A cocoon of luxury in the clouds, where contemporary design moves in harmony with nature. Get ready to encounter 500 species of birds, trees, and frogs found nowhere else in the world, along with waterfalls and extraordinary native flora. Trek hidden trails, cross crystal-clear rivers, rise at dawn in search of rare birds, or soar above the forest aboard the Dragonfly Canopy Gondola.

This sophisticated contemporary lodge is the ideal base for exploring the extraordinary biodiversity of its private nature reserve. Perched on a secluded plateau and accessible exclusively to lodge guests, Mashpi Lodge offers breathtaking views of the surrounding cloud forest through its floor-to-ceiling windows, creating an immersive connection with nature.

Cloud forest reserve location

Mashpi Reserve, a 1,200-hectare (3,000-acre) conservation area, is located within the Metropolitan District of Quito and forms part of the Ecuadorian Chocó rainforest, one of the world’s greatest biodiversity hotspots. As the road descends from 2,800 to 1,000 meters (9,200 to 3,300 feet) above sea level, the landscape transforms dramatically—from the dry valley of Pomasqui to the lush, mist-covered cloud forest—revealing the extraordinary biodiversity of the Andes and the enchanting world of Mashpi.

Contemporary Design in Harmony with nature

Built using sustainable construction techniques and powered by hydroelectric energy, the lodge was designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Its contemporary, minimalist design combines warm earth tones, vibrant accents, clean lines, and dramatic views, creating a luxurious retreat in the heart of the cloud forest—an ideal setting for relaxation, reflection, and an immersive connection with nature.

Guest rooms are located across three floors, each featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that immerse you in the surrounding cloud forest. Ground-floor rooms offer a unique perspective of the forest floor, while the upper levels overlook the lush canopy. Thoughtfully designed with adjustable blackout blinds, soundproofing, and humidity and temperature controls, every room provides exceptional comfort and restful sleep.

Mashpi Lodge offers an exceptional dining experience inspired by Ecuador’s rich culinary heritage. The elegant Dining Room and Explorer’s Bar occupy a dramatic two-story space where fresh, locally sourced ingredients are paired with fine wines and handcrafted cocktails.

Reconnect with nature at the Samay Wellness Center, an open-air sanctuary offering a selection of wellness and beauty treatments. Relax with a massage, unwind in the hot tub, or practice yoga surrounded by the sights and sounds of the cloud forest.

Activities

During the signature 3-night/4-day stay, guests enjoy 8–10 rainforest experiences, along with time to relax and take advantage of the lodge’s wellness offerings. Each day, expert naturalist guides tailor the program to your interests, fitness level, and current weather and trail conditions.

Choose from a variety of unforgettable experiences, including guided forest trails, waterfalls, the Dragonfly Canopy Gondola, Sky Bike, Observation Tower, Hummingbird Viewpoint, night walks, the Life Centre, and evening nature briefings.
